Description of Keplers's model
We closely follow the (Duncan,1981) transl. of Kepler's
Mysterium Cosmographicum, 2nd edn. of 1621.
CONTENTS
- Kepler's 2D model:
Harmonics of rings, with 1 graphic
- This is Kepler's failed first attempt:
planar annuli separated by regular polygons --
equilateral triangle, square,...
- Kepler's 2D model:
Math of the gaps in the plane
- Proofs of the harmonic ratios, Euclidean plane geometry.
- Kepler's 3D model:
Description of the model
- A list of the five gaps, spaced by regular polyhedra,
with harmonic ratios.
- Kepler's 3D model:
Math of the gaps, 3D model
- Proofs of the five harmonic ratios, Euclidean solid geometry.
- Orbit data, six planets:
R-max, R-min, R-mean, eccentricity
- Using modern data from (Moore/Hunt, 1983).
- Ratio data, five gaps:
R-max-mean-min, 9 Ratios
- Using modern data from (Moore/Hunt, 1983), set out
in the style of Kepler's Table III (Duncan, 1981; pp. 28, 212, 213).
- The scorecard for Kepler's model:
Final results
- We put it all together, and tally the results:
min/max ratios from modern data, from Kepler's model,
and the errors.
